Concern over timescale for transport scheme

I am concerned that much-needed transport improvements in Harlow could be at least four years from even receiving the go-ahead for funding.

The East of England Regional Assembly has made what it describes as an "indicative recommendation" that a host of public transport improvements costing £8m are carried out in the town.
However its recommendation lists the potential scheme among those which could receive funding for the 2013-14 to 2016-17 period.

The improvements could include passenger transport interchanges at Harlow Mill Station, Harlow Town Station, Princess Alexandra Hospital and Harlow town centre bus station.
High quality passenger transport services from the new development areas east and north of the town are also proposed, according to the East of England Regional Assembly.

Whilst I welcome any support for vital funding of our infrastructure, we desperately need funding now. Moreover we need urgent funding for the much-needed by-pass on the M11 to relieve traffic in Harlow and the surrounding villages.

After 12 years of a Labour Government there are still no guarantees of funding for this much-needed road. We need more action on behalf of the Government and less talk.

Inquiry call over blaze site

I have called on the Environment Agency to carry out a full inquiry into the recycling centre which was the scene of a massive blaze.
Fire crews spent several days tackling the fire which broke out on the Birchwood Industrial Estate, in Hoe Lane, Nazeing.

I have written to the Environment Agency saying the site is a danger to local residents after I
visited the site and met with local residents who live nearby.
I'm shocked by the environmental risk of this wood recycling site and believe this second fire in recent years means the danger to local residents has become intolerable."

I firmly believe we need a full inquiry on how this site is run and the impact on local residents. The dust and disruption in unacceptable and the disregard for the local residents has been deplorable.

I believe this wood recycling site represents not just a safety risk to the local population but also an environmental risk as it causes significant pollution. The recent, second, fire has shown how dangerous it is.

Welcome to my Blog

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog!

Well despite the snow, its been a busy week, although I did stay at home on Monday. When I woke up, I thought I was in Narnia and my girlfriend Vanda, (who has never seen snow before, as she is from Brazil), was quick to make a big fat snowman outside our house.

Nevertheless, being at home had its advantages. I caught up on my emails at last.
I got a remarkable one from a lady in Harlow who has started a web company called Scents-Ability which sells all sorts of scented goodies. This lady is all the more remarkable because she has suffered some illnesses, yet is determined to be a success. I know she will be.

Tomorrow night, I have been invited to open the White Horse Pub in Old Harlow ,which should be fun. It is a lovely Pub and I am sure it will be a great success. Afterwards, I have to rush off to a Roydon Parish Council. Villagers are quite worried about Government plans to build hundreds of thousands of houses over the Essex countryside and also determined to resist Government plans for extra gypsy sites.

On Friday, I am looking forward to visiting Rotary Watches. This Swiss watch company is over a 100 years old and is still run by the same Dreyfuss family that started it all those years ago. Amazingly, the company has a big factory in Essex, in Westcliff on Sea. I love watches and clocks, so it will be fascinating to see.

Finally, in this cold but beautiful snow, although many of us have fun, we should remember the homeless who have it harder than ever this time of year. I pay tribute to Patsy Dye of the Harlow Streets to Homes Centre who organised a night shelter recently. I am proud to be patron of this amazing charity.

Until next time.
